If you had trouble getting to the site over the last day or two, I apologize. According to my hosting company, the server was overheating and they had to shut it down until they could find the problem. Seems like all is OK now.
Just in case you missed it…What is Self Defense
Just in case you missed it, the implication is that yes, there is now a full copy of What is Self Defense (the 1953 version, not the 1981 version that bears this cover) available here at the site. Thankfully, it appears to have fallen into the public domain.
I’m actually not the hugest fan ever of this book, and upon close inspection it’s plagiarized, filled with bad body mechanics, and overly revered, but I do think it is required reading for kenpo / kempo students. The point is that it is the only real view we have into the curriculum of James Mitose. Read and enjoy!
Great Mitose Article Over at MartialTalk
There’s a pretty good article in a thread over at MartialTalk. The thread includes some cool pictures of some Mitose documents that are courtesy of Ted Sumner’s Tracy Kenpo site. I’m sure if you’ve hung around here at all, my feelings on Mitose’s history are no mystery. The thread has some good potential, so check it out, or start your own here.
By the way, if you are curious about Mitose’s book and want to look at it, it always helps to have your own handy on-line reference.
