Clermont Poulin is no longer on the NCK board, but has apparently created a video of NCK for youtube. Here it is:

I like the quality of the video… If my computer at home wasnt so ancient I bet it would look even more fluid.

  2. matt says:

Yes- the production quality is great. It’s kind of weird to see someone you’ve met a few times on a video with such expensive looking footage. It’s kind of like when I stopped getting black belt magazine. It’s hard to be impressed when you call the guy on the cover Steve, and you don’t think he’s that good.

  3. Alright Jesse, I see through your agenda here. This is a flagrant use of posting for numbers!! You are simply trying to pad your “top commentator” numbers.

  4. Not that I would do that.

  5. Marlon says:

Well I am completely disappointed at the self promotion thing but the video is well produced and he is a good martial artist. Yet I am not a big fan of NCK, with all due respect to Prif. Cerio. Btw Bending the tree is essentially combo six and comes with blocks…. 😉

  6. Feral says:

Hey Marlon, I’m just curious why you don’t like NCK. I’ve never really seen any of it but I’ve wondered what the differences are and how it compares to our kempo.

    Thanks
    -Feral

  7. Jesse says:

    Sad, justin, sad

  8. Jesse says:

all that just to top my commentor number. haha
I saw bending the tree as 19 without the toss

  9. Colin says:

I’ll see your 19 and raise you a (beginner?) Kempo #5. I’m just impressed that an Xth degree still drops his guard on a snap kick =p

  10. matt says:

Colin, you just don’t see the full technique. There’s a three foot tall invisible attacker behind him that he needs to hammerfist in the forehead.

  11. Colin says:

I have so much to learn..

  12. Todd says:

As I said, just the other day, on here somewhere…..Nick Cerio’s (Rhode Island) Kempo “names” their techniques, and Fred Villari chose to “number” them.
I’ve never seen this “The Circle of the Tiger” before, so I don’t know it, so I can’t comment.
But, yes, very high quality filming….. cinematography, texture, lighting, sound, filtering, even Slow-Mo replay… wonder what they used to film it?

  13. to Todd, im NCK, and circle of the tiger is a form within our system.

  14. as for him leaving NCK, rumors were that he formed his own group, The Circle of the Wise, and they “self promoted him” to a higher rank.
    NCK didn’t like it.

but, at least he still acknowledges his core as NCK.

  15. Todd says:

I’m not sure who the “him, he, his” is that you are referring to in your above comment.

But that link was very interesting information.

I was merely saying that I, personally, do not know the Form Circle of the Tiger………so I cannot comment on it. It was not a disparging statement. Merely a statement of fact as to my ignorance of this Form.
I was never big on Forms anyways. I had up to Honsuki, Pinan 1-6, kata 1-6, crane, tiger and dragon, bo form………ummm……….had a chinese broadsword form too at one point……ummm………that may be it, not sure, my notebook is over there, too tired to get up.

  16. matt says:

I think he’s just trying to give some background on Clermont Poulin -the guy in the video doing the techniques – who was a Villari’s guy until he joined NCK. He was on the governing board of NCK, but eventually left and promoted himself / was promoted by his ‘circle of the wise’ to 10th Dan.

The form Circle of the Tiger was a creation by Nick Cerio based on parts of 1-3 kata when he created his own system. If you were to see circle of the leopard, you would definitely see it as a variation of 2 kata. I’m not sure who the guy is who is doing the form in this particular video.

  17. Marlon says:

Hey Feral. NCK is more linear and Okinowan than I enjoy. To be clear Prof. Cerio was an excellent martial artist and this is simply a personal preferance. I am not crazy about AK either and that is not to take anything away from AK or GM Parker. Just for the record the Villari dvd’s make skk look like it sucks… yet I cannot take away from Its creator’s skill …
    Colin your “voice” seems familiar….

  18. Feral says:

Thank you Marlon. I understand what you are saying.
The Villari dvd’s comment is humorous and true.
