Northern California Kenpo Gathering

Flyer for California gatheringI just saw a posting about a gathering in California this coming fall. It benefits women and children at risk (although I’m not clear exactly how, but I’m taking their word). It features some big name instructors – Steve Labounty, Professor James Muro, Dr. Ted Sumner, Professor Bob White, Dr. Ron Chapel and more. Contact Dave Crouch for more information.

Tigi Mataalii – Kempo Senior?

I was perusing Youtube, and thought I found a nice little kempo variant. Tigi Mataalii has channel on Youtube where he posts lessons. As with any other person I wasn’t familiar with, I did a little homework. Depending on where you look, he’s a student of Professor chow,  Sam Kuoha earned a third dan under him, he’s an Olympic medalist in Judo in 1968 and Judo  and Karate in 1976, and a breaking world record holder. Sounds great! Except…

Judo wasn’t in the 1968 Olympics, and Karate hasn’t been ever. There’s no record of Tigi Mataalii winning an Olympic Medal. He apparently got booed off the stage for precutting his ice, and Chow didn’t know him. John Bishop smacks him down pretty well at the Kajukenbo Cafe. What’s the deal.

After the jump there’s also an obnoxious video demonstrating one of his ‘signature chi breaks’, by some kid in his kitchen. Obnoxiousness after the jump.

Slow on the uptake. Combination 97 added.

Matt DeLuzio, one of Dominick Violante’s students was kind enough to send me combination 97 ages ago, even pointing out where it occurs in Sho ton Kwok, and I hadn’t put it up yet. It’s in now (apologies, Matt) and it prompted me to update the ‘What we have -what we need’ page, and I found that we now have 93 of the combinations, and need only 15. So, with that in mind, if anyone has these:

Need (15 total): 79,82-84,86,91,92, 95,98,99,104-108

Please send them in. Thanks!
