I spend lots of time looking at the kempo that other folks do on the net, and I thought I’d put up some ‘home movies’ of what I’m learning. Joe Rebelo has put up some footage of Professor Kimo Ferreira doing a seminar at Chris Hatch’s Cape Cod Martial Arts Academy, and I thought I’d put it up. One, to show how what I’m learning is influencing my Shaolin Kempo, and two so folks can see my friends Masters Hatch and Dwire serve as uke for Professor.

Andy Henson in the News
Andy Henson, occasional contributor, and one of the folks sharing material on Youtube, got some nice news coverage from his local paper last April. He recently completed a certification with John Hackleman at the Pit, and is their first East Coast representative. John Hackleman is most noted as the coach / trainer / teacher of Chuck Liddell, and one of the folks who best represents the fighting art Kempo was meant to be. Perhaps he’ll write that journal / blog entry / article detailing his experiences at the pit soon. Hint…

Important Historical Insight
There have been many claiming the mantle of James Mitose’s Kosho Ryu, and Bruce Juchnik and Nimr Hassan have been two of the most prominent. In this thread on Martial talk, John Bishop provided links to four Youtube videos that provide recordings of discussions between these two men regarding what they learned from James Mitose, and the direction they planned to take Kosho. Juchnik was a Tracy black belt who met Mitose while he was in prison serving his sentence for his part in a murder conspiracy. Nimr Hassan was the one who (as Terry Lee), was convicted of the actual murder of Frank Namimatsu.
These debates have quieted slightly with the increased activity of Thomas Barros Mitose, who has assumed the defacto head position of Kosho.
These discussions offer invaluable insight into the background of today’s Kosho. I’ve embedded them here after the jump, but the relevant discussion is at Martialtalk.
