Walter Godin and Karazenpo

I was following a podcast on Kajukenbo and found this episode featuring Walter Godin. He was the brother in law of Sonny Gascon, founder of Karazenpo Goshinjitsu. This was the precursor to Shaolin Kempo. Having trained under a student of Walter Godin, Kimo Ferreira, I can see some of the similarities between the systems. However, author David Tavares makes a point about the similarities between early Karazenpo Goshinjitsu and Kajukenbo that to my mind suggests the pivotal role of SGM George Pesare in the development of the Shaolin Kempo we know today.

How can any of this be the precursor to Shaolin Kempo ????? These styles in the mid to late 1970s were developed AFTER the intro of Shaolin Kempo to America. Shaolin Quan Fa ???? is over 1000 years older than that.

    Joel-
Shaolin Quan Fa may be really old. However, this content is related to the Shaolin Kempo propagated by Fred Villari. His teacher was Nick Cerio, and Nick Cerio’s teacher was SGM S. George Pesare. George Pesare learned from Sonny Gascon, brother in law of Walter Godin. There may be some confusion about terminology here. The forms from the 1-5 Kata series of Shaolin Kempo are remixes from Kajukenbo forms, and the Pinan series are adjusted versions of the pinan/heian series of forms from either shotokan or some other Okinawan karate style. Sorry for the confusion.
