Kempoinfo – a year in.

As of last week, Kempoinfo.com past a year in this incarnation. The old personal site started a few years back, but I didn’t have a convenient name or place to keep things. Since I put it up, I put google analytics on to see who stops by and where they are from. I thought I’d share some stats:

So, thanks to those who have been here from the beginning, and to those who have joined us along the way. The visitors hail from 95 different countries, and many folks visit daily. Here’s to you readers, and thanks for reading and sharing. I have a lot more in store, and I hope you will join me for the journey.

New Free Martial Arts Publication

There’s a new martial arts magazine on the block. Sean Seifer of IDMAA has created Martial Arts Monthly. It’s a free online magazine. It even features my friend KenpoJoe Rebelo, who give Kempoinfo.com a shoutout. They are looking for contributors, so drop them a line if you are looking for a writing outlet. There is a lot of kempo information this month, so it’s definitely worth a read.

Classic Black Belt Article – Fred Villari, July 1975

Dan Weston posted a link to this classic article over at Martialtalk. Apparently Black Belt has put many of their magazines into Google Books as an archive, which is much more comprehensive than the archives at the Black Belt Magazine site.

I find this article pretty informative, as the descriptions are of Fred Villari as an accomplished martial artist are telling. Also telling, or at least perhaps some foreshadowing is the level of exaggeration Villari puts into the article. He’s 30, but mentions starting his school “8-10 years ago”, even though he apparently started studying with Nick Cerio in 1967, and received his black belt in 1969, only six years before the article. Perhaps a sign?
