Combination 108

We’re almost there. After a long quiet period, Rob Johnson of Bolton Martial Arts Club has sent in a variety of techniques (including his whole curriculum), and we now have combination 108 in the archive. This updates the ‘orphan page’ to be the 101-108 page now that half of the combinations are present. Our list now consists of:

Combinations:

Have (96 total):1-78,80,81,83, 85, 87-90, 93,94-96,97, 100-103,108

Need (12 total): 79,82,84,86,91,92, 98,99,104-107

If you have a combination on the need list, please send in a writeup. Thanks!

  1. Spoke to a high ranking Villaris person and he said he was going to send me a dvd with his versions of the combos that he got directly from Villari himself. we already have the techniques he is sending but he tells me they are different then what we have (big surprise) the one thing I like is this. He tells me he got them directly from GM Villari. I have always questioned certain combos and people for making them up themselves and then claiming them as originals.

  2. Todd says:

What does “original” mean? Villari would always be changing things anyways. So what was/is “original” from him, Nick Cerio, William Chow, or others which may be even “more original” than from Villari. In reality, everything has been “made up” by someone, or more than one person, at some point in time. So does this mean Combos or other Techniques that “people” “make them up themselves” are invalid or of less validity and value than those “original” to Villari? Or are they equally valuable teaching elements to instill into students Principles and Techniques? After all, Kempo is like Football, it’s about Fundamentals. So does it really matter if, for example, one adheres to the “original” #3 Combo, or is what is only important is that one ingrains within oneself the underlining concepts and principles which #3 Combo teaches and trains? Because many people do #3 Combo in many different ways, all without compromising the “original” integrity of its purpose as a training tool. That is what is important, not that we learn and do #3 Combo precisely as it was “originally” presented. Times change, and each person must adapt each technique to his own needs and suitability.

So how come you don’t have, can’t find, and still need those 12 Combos? Have you ever tried to contact Fred Villari himself, and simply request them? Perhaps he would not entertain such a request, but…………….

  4. Todd,
I want the original Villari ones because they are the original.. Even if he has changed them it is still Villari’s Shaolin Kempo, I have plenty of friends all from the Villari lineage and we all do bits of our combinations different. I have seen them and I am not searching out other peoples interpretations of them. I want to know what the original form was. Does not mean I will do it that way, I just like to see where it is coming from to continue to fill in the pieces of the puzzle. I have tried contacting GM Villari and it got me no where, I have tried contacting some of his highest ranked students who own schools and received the same material… none.
