New Favorite Podcasts

I’ve long been a fan of the 24fightingchickens site, but today I started listening to the podcasts of Iain Abernethy. He practices ‘Applied Karate’, and is concerned with the practical application of Karate. It’s not a kempo site, but he seems very sensible and the podcasts I’ve listened to so far (on pressure points and being a black belt) resonate pretty strongly with me. I have added the 24fighting chickens podcasts to my repertoire recently instead of just reading his site, and they are a must listen for anyone who runs a school.

Upon further listening, I found out that Iain Abernethy practices an offshoot of Wado-ryu.

    what’s a “podcast”?

    Todd-
A ‘podcast’ is an audio file that works like a blog. Think of it like an internet radio show. In some cases you can listen right on the site, but others you subscribe to and the episodes get delivered to you through podcast software (like iTunes) so you can listen on your own hardware (like an iPod) at your leisure. It’s a cross between broadcasting, DVR, and iPods, hence ‘Podcasting’.

OoooooKaaaaYeeeee!!! I caught you, Matt, on that other Kempo site, tonite, and I tried to listen to a “podcast” you recommended of that buy Abernathy. But man, I could hardly understand what he was saying with that Scottish accent of his.
I dunno, I’m just not up on all this new fangled technology. It’s just a wee bit too much to keep up with.
    Thanks for the explanation though,

That’s funny – I love the accent. It seems to make it more fun.

Some of his video stuff is cool too – I’ll be posting a review of one of his products shortly.
