  • Professor Kimo Ferreira seminar at Cape Cod Martial Arts, March 12, 2010

    January 13th, 2010 by matt · 23 Comments

As has been mentioned in the forum, CCMAA is hosting Professor Kimo Ferreira for a seminar. The topic is weapon defense, from a Kempo Jutsu perspective. If that wasn’t good enough, our good friend Jesse Dwire IV (who you might know as RevIV) will be there as well presenting Kempo animal techniques.  Go to the Cape Cod Martial Arts Academy Website for details. Paperwork should be up within 48 hours. Many folks you know from the comments and the forum will likely be there, so please come on down. I’ll definitely be there (and will certainly be taking a turn as Uke…) so you will at least get to see me take a pounding. Hope to see you there.

He’s been out there (West coast) before – but right now it’s just an East coast trip. If I get any info, I will definitely let you know.

After this visit, his next travel plans are Japan.

Anyone who has not yet taken the opportunity to attend a seminar with Prof. Kimo… It is a must. The best attestation of this is that we who have experienced him first hand keep returning for more.
Master Dwire is a dedicated and talented martial artist and I look forward to learning from him. It is going to be a great night of fun, pain, learning and good kempo commeraderie!

I may come out from under my rock for this event.

    • 6 Marlon // Jan 25, 2010 at 1:44 pm

It will be great to see you again, Justin. Just to be clear this event is at the CCMAA and not and Master Dwire’s school, correct?

      Thats my understanding.

Correct — it is at Master Chris Hatchs school on the cape.

I’ve had the pleasure of attending a few seminars with Prof. Kimo, et. al. in San Diego County. Walked away with several practical applications. Fyi – This man is vicious! hahaha. Thoroughly enjoyed the training.

I was just on the phone with Professor Kimo, and it sounds like things are pretty organized and under control there – they had plenty of warning to get folks out of the way. He’s inland and high enough that he’s not in any particular danger.

Update: Apparently, no major crisis in HI.

I see an Amazon ad to the right with one of Prof. Kimo’s DVD’s. “Kempo w/ Prof. Kimo” is this a new DVD? if it is will Prof. be bringing some to the cape seminar?

I think that’s the Budo International one filmed in Spain. It’s old,but full of techniques.
He did do a video for Quest Video in Japan, and I think he’ll have some of the new ones. I think he’s at least bringing one for me, if I recall.

An excellent seminar. Master Dwire taught some excellent animal techniques with great showmanship and skill. Prof. Kimo was spectacular as usual. Justin thumped me around and nearly broke my knee! Meeting dedicated martial artists such as the Logan’s was an honour. Thanks to everyone who stayed up talking and working out kempo, even while snoring. :). I guess I am saying I had a great time. I am only sorry that fatigue and time pressures kept me from really exploring and exchanging with everyone the way I wanted to. Matt you are a terribly impressive martial artist. Thanks to the Mass. Trio once again

Marlon, it was so great that you could come down. I only wish you had time to stay. Plan on a Cape Cod summer vacation sometime. As much fun as the seminar was, I think it was really surpassed for me by hanging out until ridiculous hours in the hotel after (apologies to the other guests…) and then the Saturday workout after. It was so fantastic to just compare notes, learn new nuances, and get to work (all to briefly) with old and new friends.
Many thanks to the travelers who came so far to hang – Marlon, Bill & Tammy, and even the folks who drove just 2 or 3 hours. It was a privilege to train with you folks.
I’m still working on that takedown (Marlon) and am really thinking about all the other variations we practiced.
It was so cool just to take turns trying stuff out. I am a better martial artist for having worked with each of you.

I think we have to get to getter again and do a ” gathering” if our own and spend a few days and nights just hammering through our material and our understanding. Matt said it best: I am a better martial artist for the time I spent with all of you. Many thanks
