Overhead Clubs by Michael Litton, Part One

The following techniques were sent in by Michael Litton. I’ve kept his formatting as much as possible. There may be repeats when compared with other techniques in the archive, but as they came in as such a large set, I thought I’d keep them together.

OVERHEAD #1

·         Step to 10:30 with Left foot, #5 Block

·         3 Thrust punches to ribs with Left hand. Kiai.

OVERHEAD #2

·         Step forward with Left foot into half moon stance.

·         Double overhead cross-block, Right hand on top (Block arm between wrist and elbow).

·         Rotate arms clockwise, guiding opponents arm into their groin (Pressing with right hand as Left hand returns to elbow position).

·         Left Thrust punch to ribs.

·         Right Thrust punch to temple. Kiai.

Option B:

Instead of thrust punches reach behind opponent and grab club with Left hand.  Strike base of skull with club.

Option C:

Side blade kick to knee.

 

OVERHEAD #3 (PINAN 2)

·         Step forward with Left foot, #5 block (to elbow).

·         #6 block, then clear arm (using counterstrike motion).

·         Right front 2 knuckle punch to groin, ribs or solar plexus.

·         Left back 2 knuckle to face. Kiai.

 

OVERHEAD #4

·         Step forward with Left foot into half moon stance.

·         Double overhead cross-block, Right hand on top (Block arm between wrist and elbow).

·         Rotate arms clockwise as Left foot pulls back to meet Right foot in Front position, facing 9:00.

·         Grab wrist with both hands, lift opponents arm (this exposes the ribs).

·         Side blade kick to ribs. Kiai.

·         Right foot crosses in front of left, step out, en garde.

 

Overhead #4 Variation

·         Step forward with Left foot into half moon stance.

·         Double overhead cross-block, Right hand on top (Block arm between wrist and elbow).

·         Rotate arms clockwise as Left foot pulls back to meet Right foot in Front position, facing 9:00.

·         Grab wrist with both hands, lift opponents arm (this exposes the ribs).

·         Side blade kick to ribs. Kiai.

·         Left Hand Grabs Club

·         Right Leg steps back down into horse stance

·         Pivoting on Right leg, John Wayne backwards, ending up behind opponent while switching

the club to the right hand

·         Hit the opponent’s ribs with the the club

·         Hit the opponent’s head with the the club with a backfist type motion and Kiai

 

OVERHEAD #5

·         Step to 10:30 with Left foot, duck under attacker’s arm.

·         Right roundhouse elbow to ribs (Advanced: add Right side elbow to kidney).

·         Pivot while delivering Left roundhouse elbow to back of neck, forcing opponent forward and down.

·         Right downward elbow to spine. Kiai.

Option:

Step glide at beginning of technique to keep rear (right) leg away from club.

 

OVERHEAD #6

·         Step forward with Left foot into half moon stance.

·         Double overhead cross-block, Right hand on top (Block arm between wrist and elbow).

·         Grab attacker’s arm with left hand, Right foot slides by opponent into horse stance, facing 9 o’clock.

·         Left hook kick to solar plexus.

·         Right foot sweeps opponent’s leg as you step back into half moon facing 12 o’clock.

·         Right front ball kick to ribs. Kiai.

 

OVERHEAD #7 (CRANE TECHNIQUE)

·         Hop to 10:30, as Right arm redirects opponents strike (arm remains straight).

·         Right cross-hand shuto to neck, grab hair or collar as right leg remains raised in a flamingo stance.

·         Right side blade kick to knee.

·         Pivot to 3 o’clock, stepping down into half moon stance (Right foot forward).

·         Pull opponents head into Left roundhouse elbow (directed at neck). Kiai.
