Ten Point Blocking System

writeup by Matt

The ten point is a stationary blocking system done with the open hands.

It’s mostly done slowly, and often with ‘dynamic tension’. Stephen Bonk has submitted a ‘Ten Point with Strikes’ as well. Thanks to Andy Henson of Lynchburg Martial Arts for posting this great video of the ten point on Youtube.

David Shirley from Villari’s has one up too:

Front position, bow.

Step out to horse stance with right foot, knife hand low blocks (like #7 and 8).

Both hands circle up to do simultaneous outward ridgehand blocks.

Both hands again do low knifehand blocks. Both hands come to the center line, and the fingers bend and meet back to back. The fingertips raise along the center line, in a scooping motion until the fingertips are at nose height. Rotate the hands so that the knifehand is out and do simultaneous splitting knifehand blocks out to just past shoulder width. Rotate the hands so the ‘knifehand’ edge is in again, and bring both hands in to a ‘trap’ in front of the nose again. Press down, with the thumb and index fingers touching, to waist level. Cup and saucer (in the version I have, fist over fist, but Marlon Wilson has it palm over palm) right side, press two tiger claws to the left side, right high and left low. Cup and saucer (fist over fist / palm over palm) left side, press two tiger claws to the right side, left high and right low. (in the version I have, you stay in a horse stance but shift your weight to the side you are directing the tiger claws, however the version Marlon Wilson has pivots to a front stance so the tiger claws are ‘forward’ relative to your torso)

*the next part is done quickly*

Cross block low front, right over left, double outward ridgehand blocks (like #1 and #2), then two spear pokes straight ahead at collarbone level, grab collarbones and pull, drawing your elbows back and out at shoulder level.

*back to slow*

Do a right supported (left hand under elbow palm down) ridgehand block at shoulder level. Drop the right hand and raise the left along the center line and press two tiger claws forward, left high, right low.

Do a left supported (right hand under elbow palm down) ridgehand block at shoulder level. Drop the left hand and raise the right along the center line and press two tiger claws forward, right high, left low.

Cross arms palm in at chest level, knife hand low blocks (like #7 and 8).

Right foot returns to left as you return to front position.

Bow.
